What is the Best Crankbait rod?
Well, this is a very tough question to answer. Many manufacturers are making fantastic crankbait rods. One may work good for one person and may not work for another person. This actually very from person to person. Even if someone claims that the rod he is using for crankbait fishing is best, that would be subjective. However, we are going to share our favorite best crankbait rods with you.
Before proceeding, you can check the factors of how to choose the best crankbait rods. If you follow these factors, there are chances that you will get the best crankbait rod to add to your collection.
Factors to choose the best crankbait rods
There are power ratings for different types of fishing rods. They are usually rated like this :
- Extra Heavy
- Medium heavy
- Medium Light
- Ultra Light
Don’t be confused with such variation. This power rating shows the strength of that particular rod. Assume, you are are fishing for a heavy fish, then get a heavy crankbait rod. So, if you are looking for a heavy fish you need a heavy power crankbait rod. It’s that simple.
This is also correlated with the rod action, lure weight, line test limits. More of these are discussed in the later part of this paragraph. However, most of the fisherman chooses a medium light to medium heavy crankbait rods. That’s not a rule of thumb, but just a common assumption.
Like the rod power, rod action is measured in these ratings:
- Moderate fast
- Extra Fast
Action ratings mean where the rod will flex along with the blank.
- A faster action rod will flex at the tip of the rod
- A Medium action crankbait rod will flex on the middle of the blank
- A slow action crankbait rod will flex down on the butt section
I always preferred moderate fast to moderate action range crankbait rods. It suits my types of crankbait fishing.
Another important factor while choosing the best rod for crankbait fishing. Usually, a crankbait rod ranges from 6 ½ feet to 8 feet. This is not a rule of thumb, as different sized crankbait rods may be required on your needs.
A longer rod will help you to force more power while casting. As a result, you will be able to cast longer with longer rods. This is actually good for crankbait fishing as it allows you to reach a greater depth for a longer time in deep-diving crank baits.
A shorter crankbait rod has it’s benefit too. A shorter crankbait rod will have better casting accuracy than longer rods. Another good thing is the ability to pull off or fight the fishes in compact places. It is you who will decide which rod length is better for you.
